After Photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic Treatment- Levulan and BLU-U light

1. Aviod sunlight or bright indoor lighting for the next 48-72 hours
2. If you must go outside, wear light blocking clothing and hats
3. Sunblock does not protect your skin during this time frame
4. Keep skin well moisturized. Apply moisturizing cream as needed for dryness.
5. Use a 1% hydrocortisone 2-3 times a day for redness & swelling if needed
6. Use cool compresses as needed for swelling.
7. Tylenol or Advil may be taken according to manufacturer’s recommendations for redness and discomfort.
8. Daily use of #30 or greater SPF sunscreen is recommended.

After treatment you may experience the following

• Peeling and flaking of skin
• Redness
• Dark Spots
• Swelling
• Stinging/burning (usually lasts 24 hours)
• Tenderness

These effects usually resolve in 5-7 days and will be completely resolved in 3-4 weeks.
