Also known as rhytidectomy, a modified face lift is the use of surgical means to correct the changes that occur in the natural process of aging. Facial skin can sag because of weight loss, the lifelong effects of gravity, genetic predisposition, and sun damage. Skin folds and fat deposits appear in the jaw area and under the chin. A face lift is generally performed to rejuvenate an aging face by dissecting the tissues under the facial skin and reestablishing support. Drooping facial skin is elevated and the excess is removed. Often 1 to 1-1/2 inches of facial skin is removed from each side of the face. Underlying layers are tightened, and tissue is moved from sagging lower areas to higher areas such as the cheekbones to give more definition to desirable areas.
During your consultation a careful examination will be done to distinguish the various culprits of facial aging. Dr. Ford will explain the different considerations based on the degree of deterioration and the quality of skin.
A Full Face Lift includes the neck area. A droopy neck is tightened at the same time and often unwanted fat is removed during this part of the procedure. In addition, Dr. Ford usually performs a corset platysmaplasty and/or neck liposuction to further tighten the muscles and soft tissue of the neck. He sculpts the under surface of the jaw line to create better definition in this area.
A Full Face Lift generally takes about three to four hours to perform because of the many steps involved. A face lift can improve the deep cheek folds, jowls, and loose, sagging skin around the neck that comes with age. Most of the incisions will be hidden within your hairline and in the normal creases of your skin. Many men and women have achieved excellent results with this procedure. After surgery, a face lift can make you look younger, fresher and enhances your self-confidence in the process.
