After Facial Trauma Repair
- Full liquid diet unless directed other wise.
- No strenuous activity for 2 months.
- If vomiting occurs, leave elastics on arch bars in place and vomit through them. (If this applies to you)
- No alcohol use.
- Follow up appointment in 7 days for suture removal.
- Head of bed must be elevated by 30 degrees.
- Oral Care: Use a soft children’s toothbrush to teeth and hardware topically and often. Unless water pick is available. Bacitracin ointment application to surgical incision sites on the outside of the face to keep them moist.
- Incision sites may be cleaned topically with equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water on a Q-tip. Dab incisions, DO NOT RUB, then pat dry.
- Patients who received general anesthesia should return home from our office immediately upon discharge and lie down with the head elevated until all the effects of the anesthesia have disappeared. Anesthesia effects vary by individual, and you may feel drowsy for a short period of time or several hours. You should not operate any mechanical equipment or drive a motor vehicle (including ATV’s dirt bikes, etc.) for at least 24 hours or longer if you feel any residual effects for the anesthesia. Do not use appliances or equipment that could be dangerous such as power tools, stoves burners or lawn mowers. Watch out for dizziness. Walk slowly and take your time. sudden changes of position can also cause nausea, dizziness or even fainting. Do not drink any alcoholic beverages. The drugs in your body may increase your reaction to alcohol and could be dangerous.
