The first appointment may be a consultation with you to elicit your concerns, perform an examination and explore your diagnosis with you. It is a time to express any anxiety you may have about a procedure; have any questions answered; discuss treatment options; timing; and select the anesthetic choice best suited for you and your procedure. If it is appropriate, and you so desire, we may forego the separate consultation visit and have this discussion on the day of your surgery. This option is only available for certain types of procedures and patients and is only at the sole discretion of our office. Individuals with complex medical histories or specific types of procedures must have a separate consultation appointment before any treatment is performed. We will not compromise your health and safety as a matter of convenience and this is purely done with your best interest in mind. Our staff will ask you about your health history when making the appointment to help us in making this determination. It is important to tell us if you have any medical conditions (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.), or if you currently take any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.). Again, this information is critical and we want to give you the very best care!
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your appointment:
Patients under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
On the day of your surgery, it is very important that you not have anything to eat or drink for six hours prior to your surgery -not even water! You will also need to arrange for someone to drive you home.
